MY KENYAN EXPERIENCE WITH Mohamed, Hambi and Hana Yusuf

Mohamed was introduced to me by my husband Ed. They met a few years ago, and when I told my husband that I could not find a time that fits both my and Zamire's schedule, to attend a cultural event together, he called Mohamed; and he was thrilled to invite us to his favorite restaurant, to share with us authentic Kenyan meals. 

Mohamed immigrated to the United States four years ago with his wife and his older daughter. Their second daughter was born in the United States. Every Sunday, the four of them come to Rafiki Lounge, which is an authentic Kenyan restaurant. This ritual is to them a way to regularly feel connected to their native country, to hear people speak their language, to listen to music from their country, and to do other activities related to their culture. This time, his wife had another activity to attend, this is why we met with only three of them. I look forward to meeting his wife the next time me and my husband meet with them.
